Project brief and client design objectives:

The Situation:

Ashvale Farm Shop is a family business with a strong background in farming that hadn’t considered Food and Drinks Brand Design as an important part of its journey, yet.  They intended to set up a high-quality artisan farm shop just outside Lisburn, Northern Ireland with the aim of providing fresh quality organic produce to the public. All of their products are to be supplied by quality local suppliers with a traceable farm-to-fork methodology.

Farm Shop benefits:

  • Family-run business passionate about providing food produce
  • Located just outside Lisburn in the beautiful countryside
  • Huge range of locally grown and sourced produce
  • The exceptional quality of the artisan produce as it is not mass produced

The brief:

  • The client wanted a new brand created for the farm shop
  • The client liked the idea of amalgamation their family coat of arms into the logo somehow
  • The brand needed to have a real sense of heritage with a regal tone of voice
  • The client wanted their brand to be the benchmark others would follow

Approach & Result

Our Approach to Brand Design for the Food & Drink Sector:

We met with the client where we viewed their family coat of arms which they wished to incorporate elements of into their new brand. On their crest, they had the Latin words “PER MAR PER TERRAS” translated as OVER LAND AND SEA. They wished to incorporate this messaging into the new brand as a relevant acknowledgment of it being their family business. It also gave their brand a sense of originality unique to their family alone.

We got to work illustrating a shield graphic that incorporated their Latin words using a ribbon-styled scroll device. I illustrated a stag’s head with tree branch motifs to highlight their beautiful countryside location. Serif uppercase fonts were used to give the brand a sense of heritage and gravitas. The colour palette of warm grey, deep red, and black added to the overall rich and quality tone of voice.

A complete Corporate Identity style guide document was created to ensure brand consistency and accuracy were adhered to across all marketing channels and ensure the product was instantly recognised even without the logo. The templates included details of the family font to be used, the colour palette, image style, stationery design layouts, do’s and don’ts regarding sizing and colouring the logo, signage, interior posters and packaging ideas, social media design style layouts, brochure template designs, signage, PowerPoint slides, exhibition panels and all manner of marketing collateral.

The Result:

Since opening Ashvale Farm Shop has gone from strength to strength and is now a well-established and respected thriving business in the local area. Due to demand their Tea Rooms have expanded to more than double in size and now include an expansive dining area.

Due to its continuing success, Ashvale now employs a large team of kitchen, baristas, and waiting staff. The Farm Shop has developed further into new areas with a boutique clothing store on the premises and their most recent addition to the site is their brand-new Garden Centre.

Ashvale Farm Shop now supports more local business suppliers than ever before. They have also won multiple awards for best eating establishment categories.
